Financial Assessment for services
If you are assessed as needing chargeable services, a financial assessment will be carried out by the Social Work Department to decide how much, if anything, you need to pay towards the cost.
The Financial Assessment will look at your own income and savings and the Local Authority will make a decision about how much you are able to contribute towards paying for the services. Local authorities may, in individual circumstances, consider whether there is other income to which you have reliable access, which should also be taken into account. This should be explained in information on charging which you should be given by your local authority at the time the financial assessment is carried out.
If you disagree with the amount you are asked to pay, you can ask for a review.
You have a right to request Direct Payments in order to arrange your own home care or to employ your own home care worker.
If you prefer not to have a financial assessment you can refuse, but you will have to pay the full cost of any service arranged for you.
No matter who your provider is, you should be told what their service will include and how much it will cost before the service begins.
Financial
Assessment for Care Homes Fees
Local Authorities are required by law to carry out a Financial Assessment on anyone assessed as needing to stay in a Care Home and who are unable to meet the full cost.
The purpose of the Financial Assessment is to determine how much an individual can pay towards the Standard Rate of their Care Home Fees. For more information, see Paying Care Home Fees.
